Celebrating the Legacy of David Bowie: the SMASH Benefit 2022

Let’s freak out in a Moonage Day Dream together for an epic night of music, paying tribute to the greatest Starman who ever lived to raise money to support local musicians' health! Hailed as “one of Seattle’s best new concert traditions” by the Seattle Times, A SMASH Benefit is an extraordinary sell-out event held at the Moore Theatre every fall, raising money to help SMASH provide Puget Sound musicians access healthcare. Every year, they pair Seattle's legacy music artists with local up-and-comers to pay tribute to music icons. Past tributes include Neil Young, Sam Cooke, U2, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, and more.

This year’s star-studded cast includes Mike McCready (Pearl Jam), Peter Buck (REM, Filthy Friends), Corin Tucker (Sleater-Kinney, Filthy Friends), Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie), Shaina Shepherd, Charity Rose Thielen and Matty Gervais (The Head & The Heart), Adè A Cônnère and Jayson Kochan (Bijoux), Jessica Dobson (Deep Sea Diver),  Brittany Davis, Courtney Taylor-Taylor (Dandy Warhols), Scott McCaughey (Young Fresh Fellows), Kurt Bloch (The Fastbacks), Linda Pitmon (The Baseball Project), Carlarans, Ian Moore, Jovino Santos Neto, Molly Sides (Thunderpussy), Better Wetter with friends, and more to be announced. This event is curated by Black Fret Seattle, a 501(c)3 nonprofit that builds a community that supports the creation and performance of new music.

“Musicians create music and live music experiences that bring joy, belonging, and inspiration into our lives. By supporting our local musicians, we ensure our local music scene will endure and thrive for generations to come, enriching our culture and community,” says Denise Burnside, Executive Director of SMASH.

A new addition to the night, VIP ticket holders have the opportunity to attend a psychedelic discothèque in space themed after-party at Madame Lou’s, a 350-capacity lower-level venue in the Crocodile’s new location on 1st and Wall St. The after-party is hosted by local dance night pop-up Boots!, which features two DJs spinning original 45s, accompanied by live go-go dancers.

This event is supported by Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Slane Whiskey, Jack Daniels, San Juan Seltzer, The Hotel Crocodile, Madame Lou’s, Polite Society, Bloodworks NW, and more to be announced.
